All four seasons shine in North Central Massachusetts but its spring when the region really comes alive. From late March through mid-June residents and guests alike return to the outdoors to enjoy all the activities that make the area such a true New England gem. With the anxious anticipation of summer, spring bridges the gap and warms up the body and spirit for everyone who may have suffered from some winter cabin fever.
The warmer days bring the hikers back out to Wachusett Mountain Reservation, Leominster State Forest, Mass Audubon Sanctuary and all the other trails and walking paths dotted throughout the region. Bicyclists take back to scenic country roads, rock climbers take to the slopes of Crow Hill and even canoers and kayakers are getting back in the water as the ice melts from all the lakes and ponds. The fish start biting, the birds start chirping, the flowers start blooming, the sun shines longer, the golfers start swinging and the down jackets give way to t-shirts for all those country road walkers. There’s still even spring skiing into early April at Wachusett Mountain for those who just don’t want to let go of winter.
Ice cream stands and farmers markets start to open up again in the villages and towns throughout North Central Massachusetts. Mother Nature repaints the trees and hillsides with the beautiful green foliage that starts to bud. Orchards start to open as they get ready for their seasonal bounty and garage sales and antique markets start become more popular. There is so much springtime to enjoy for all ages throughout North Central Massachusetts. For shoppers, spring sales begin at all the quaint shops and for diners, restaurants and all local craft breweries return to offering outdoor seating for those warmer days and nights.
